The design specifications for diesel generator rooms are intended to maximize utilization rates. Therefore, certain issues that need to be addressed must be considered during the design phase to ensure that the design is optimized from the outset, thereby preventing any shortcomings from arising during subsequent use. Key considerations when designing a generator room include: ventilation of the room, the placement of auxiliary equipment for the diesel generator, lighting conditions within the room, fire safety precautions, and other relevant considerations, as well as installation and commissioning procedures. Below, we will provide a detailed analysis of these key considerations:

Ventilation
Ventilation issues in diesel generator rooms are a critical consideration in room design, particularly when the room is located in a basement. Failure to address these issues properly can directly impact the operation of the diesel generator set. Exhaust air from the generator set should generally be vented through a hot air duct in an organized manner, rather than allowing the diesel engine radiator to dissipate heat within the room, which is then extracted by an exhaust fan. The room must have sufficient fresh air supply. During operation, the ventilation rate of the room should be equal to or greater than the sum of the fresh air required for diesel engine combustion and the fresh air required to maintain the room temperature. The fresh air required to maintain the room temperature is calculated using the following formula: C = 0.078PT, where: C — required fresh air volume (m³/s), P — rated power of the diesel engine (kW), T — temperature rise of the room (°C).

Dust Prevention
Poor dust prevention in the machine room can also damage equipment. While ensuring proper ventilation in the machine room, it is also important to consider dust prevention. Install intake and exhaust louvers to ensure air quality and airflow in the machine room.
Summary The following points should be noted when designing a diesel generator room:
1. The installation site must have sufficient ventilation, with intake and exhaust openings. The area of the exhaust opening must be at least 1.5 times larger than the area of the water tank.
2. The surrounding area of the installation site must be kept clean. Avoid storing chemical reagents nearby to prevent corrosion. It is recommended to install fire safety equipment.
3. When used indoors, the exhaust pipe must be directed outdoors. The pipe diameter must be larger than the exhaust pipe diameter of the silencer. When installing the piping, it must be inclined downward at a certain angle to prevent rainwater ingress. When using concrete for the foundation, the ground must be leveled.
4. The diesel generator housing must be grounded, and it is recommended to install lightning protection devices. Do not connect the generator's grounding to the neutral point of the mains power supply.
5. The dual-power switch (ATS) between the diesel generator and the mains power supply must be highly reliable to prevent reverse power supply.
